Any intrepid seafarer needs the towel of the trade. And by that, we mean a Mungo Towel.
But this is no everyday flat-weave. This towel is for the next generation of sea swimmers, oceanographers, and avid explorers. It’s a towel for the rockpool-finders, for the sandcastle builders and first-time snorkellers.

It’s important to us to think about the future. To look for ways to safeguard this one planet we call home.

In 2019 we began shifting our yarn to organic sources – and the Scout Towel is the newest to join the ranks.

Our Scout Towels are woven with 100% Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton.
A fibre that’s better for the planet – and for you.

Organic cotton is cultivated in pesticide and chemical-free fields and uses up to 90% less water than its conventional counterpart. By eliminating the use of harsh chemicals, organic cotton not only helps to protect the farmers who cultivate it, but also the soil and water supplies. Organic fibres are also handpicked, preserving their quality, and ensuring an ultra soft handle.

Why GOTS?

We choose GOTS certification because it’s the gold standard for organic threads. What does all of this mean? That the health of the seeds, soil and the farmer is protected, as well as each hand along the way that helps to weave your Mungo product to life.

We are currently South Africa’s first, and only, GOTS-certified weaving mill.

If you look closely, the Scout Towel will reveal more secrets. Because this isn’t just your regular plain weave towel. This is a towel with texture and tone. Featuring a unique ‘recess’ weave – a design that’s both functional and good looking. By adding more thread into the weft (that’s the left-to-right threads), we’ve created a towel that’s not only absorbent and good looking, but soft and supple to the touch. Perfect for young skin. And wriggling, runaway bodies.

Kaleidoscopic

Cerulean, emerald, pink and plum – these are all the colours of a tidal pool. We’re talking orange starfish, prickly purple urchins, bottle-green kelp and blue seas. And a sticky ice lolly on the beach to boot.
