In Appreciation of the Waffle Weave.

When a product comes to life in our design office, there are certain considerations – form must follow function…

Perhaps this is why the enduring waffle weave has made its way into many of our bath, bed and kitchen classics – a design that is as utilitarian as it is visually appealing.

What is a waffle weave?

The waffle is created by varying the lengths of the warp and weft floats around a centre. Once the fabric is taken off our looms, and washed, the floats contract into a unique waffle design.

The resulting textile is not only nice to look at, but functional – adding warmth, texture, durability and absorbency.

Absorbency

By increasing the surface area of the textile, the waffle weave makes for wonderful absorbency. The honeycomb pockets help to draw in moisture – a design feature that one ups the traditional terry cloth, which more or less pushes the moisture around as opposed to trapping it in…
